Harlie focused her eyes straight forward, her hands lied flat on her lap, the way she was taught back at basic training. Her body was on auto pilot, going back to the way she was trained to respond, while her mind was going a million miles a minute. How could she be so dumb? Why did she just jump into a car with a stranger? He hadn't even said a word to her since they started this journey. How did she even end up here?
Flashing back to earlier this morning, she remembered just staring at herself in the mirror. All she could think about is how much she looked like her mom. The same slim body, the same white as snow skin tone, same hazel eyes, they even used to have the same hair color, a kind of dirty blonde, before Harlie went and died her hair a mixture of red and blonde. She couldn't move, frozen in this moment, just staring at herself, wishing she would hear her mom yell it's time to get ready or you're going to miss the plane if you don't hurry up! But..no one called, and she really did have to get ready, if she didn't she would miss her plane back to Kentucky. She had to get back and pack away all her things, the Army didn't want her anymore and she was on her own.
Quickly, she changed out of her acu's peeling off the unflattering clothes like a Drill Sergeant was there yelling at her that she had 10 minutes. Tossing them into her open luggage, she pulled out a random assortment of clothes not even bothering to see if it matched or not. Over her head she pulled on a baby blue tank top, on the front it had a silhouette of Stitch and that whole quote from the movie about Ohana filled him in. That was her and her mom's favorite movie, they were a broken family like the characters' in the movie. Shaking her head back into reality, she shimmied on a pair of skinny blue jeans and shoved her feet into a pair of black toms. Almost ready, she pulled her hair into a neat pony tail, closed her luggage and strolled out the door.
The plane ride was boring, but she passed it by listening to her music. It was weird, she still hasn't cried yet. Every song that played made her think of her mom, but her eyes refused to water up. It wasn't like she was heartless, actually she felt her heart was shattered into a million pieces, and she just didn't know what to do. Without even realizing it, the plane had stopped and all the other passengers have left the plane and the flight attendant was waiting on Harlie to get off the plane to.
Harlie looked up, feeling like a total fool, she flashed a smile that didn't reach her eyes and apologized. Hurrying off the plane, she went got her luggage and took a cab home. Now this is where it gets weird, when she walked into her house, there stood a man. She's never seen this man a day in her life, he stood tall and strong. His grey eyes looked like a storm was raging on inside of him, and they were staring straight at her. Goose bumps traveled up Harlie's arm as they both took each other in. His dark hair was cut short and kinda looked like that cut you see in all the old military movies, tapered on the sides. Without a word, the man walked past Harlie and out the door to a car that she didn't notice before. He motioned for her to follow, and for some reason she did.
And that's how she got here, to this car, with a stranger...going to who knows where. She should feel scared, upset, she should scream and try to escape, but she just couldn't. Instead she felt drained and just sat quietly, sitting at attention, waiting to arrive at whatever destination this man took her to. Hours went by, and the silence seemed to surround them. For such a nice car with a stereo system, he sure didn't listen to music. After what felt like forever, he stopped on the side of a road and got out of the car.
Again without questioning it she followed him, she followed him through this trail in the woods and kept going until they reached a gate that read "CAMP HALF BLOOD". There was a lot of different things to take in, but Harlie couldn't focus instead she looked at the man. She had to know..
"Who are you?"
The man smiled at her, straight pearly whites flashing at her, and then he walked away into the woods. Harlie shook her head, she knew that this time he didn't want her to follow. He took her here for a reason, and she had to find out why. Maybe the answers were here inside Camp Half Blood.
Taking a deep breath, she took a step inside the camp, and said what every dumb girl says when she's lost in the woods in all the scary movies before she dies.
"Hello, is anybody there?"
